Modernising clinical facilities
First-class care goes hand-in-hand with well-designed buildings. Leuka is committed to providing the very best facilities for patients and staff, and has funded a number of building projects to enable advances in treatment and technology to be translated into real improvements in the care of patients. This includes the recent completion of The Catherine Lewis Centre at Hammersmith Hospital.
Funded by a £10.1 million capital appeal, The Catherine Lewis Centre offers leukaemia patients an attractive, comfortable environment in which they can be treated to the latest clinical standards. It includes a:
- Fourteen-roomed ward with en suite bathrooms for patients
- Modern system of air-filtration to reduce the risk of infection
- Day-care area where outpatients can be treated in comfort and privacy
- Clinical Trials Unit
- Stem cell processing laboratory
Opened in June 2002, the centre was immediately hailed as a flagship addition to the National Health Service.
