New Year, New Ways for You to Help Fight Leukaemia

New year charity resolutions to support leukaemia research

04th January 2019

Let's face it, despite its inevitability, the start of a brand new year still comes as a bit of a shock to the system each time it rolls around. Using this as a way to kick-start a life change has become a multi-million pound industry. But in-spite of the best of intentions, many of us have apparently dropped our New Year's resolution before January has even ended.

If motivation is lacking to do something purely for your self-betterment, then why not make that change for a cause close to your heart?

We here at Leuka are here to help!

Here's ways to fulfill a whole host of potential 2019 Resolutions, all with the aim of helping the fight to end leukaemia and blood cancer.

It's time to join #TeamLeuka!

If running, cycling or jogging through cold dark January morning, or cold dark January evenings seems like too much to bear - even to lose a pound or two - then maybe the warm glow of 'training' for a sponsored event, fundraising for leukaemia research, could be exactly what you need to make pulling on that Lycra something you're happy to do time and time again.

Leuka has charity places in some of the UK's biggest annual sports challenge events, including the Virgin London Marathon, Ride London and the Thames Path Challenge to name a few.

Not quite ready for that big of a challenge? Then maybe a 10k or half marathon might be the best target to aim for. You can find your nearest local race via Run Britain, here, and can opt in to run for Leuka when you register for your chosen event. But if you think that a half marathon might be more your speed (or distance) then we offer places in the London Landmarks Half, which takes place in March and the Royal Parks Half which is scheduled for 13th October this year.

It happens to us all, life gets busy and we suddenly realise we've not seen our nearest and dearest in months. But everyone's got to eat, right? Why not message that friend you've not caught up with for a while, and book an meal out via This restaurant booking website has tables at some of the best restaurants in the UK, and for each booking a small donation is made to the charity of your choice, so all that's left is to pick a time, a date and of course, Leuka.

Some people find that making small incremental changes is the best approach for them, so here's a few, no cost actions you can quickly make to help support our blood cancer research.

Almost everyone shops for something online these days, from clothes to TVs, from groceries to holidays. But did you know that you can earn cash for your favourite charities at the same time?

Simply by shopping via the easyfundraising website you can get Leuka a small donation with each purchase you make from brands such as Sainsbury's, and John Lewis, to name just a few.

It takes just a minute or two to register and select Leuka as your cause (search Leukaemia and click on the show more button if we don't appear straight away) and they even have a handy reminder tool that pops up on partner sites so you never miss the chance to earn a donation.

And if you're a frequent customer of Amazon's, they've also got in on the charitable giving act, launching new shopping portal 'amazon smile' - simply head to and log-in with your normal sign-in details, select us as your preferred charity and then amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) of eligible purchases to Leuka.

And why not set yourself a target of getting a friend or family member to switch each month too!

We've probably all had one or two 'unexpected' gifts over the past year. Now is the perfect time to find them a new, loving home. Why not put them on ebay (or head to a car boot sale), along with any other unused or unwanted items, free up some space and donate the proceeds to Leuka?

You could even get others in on the act and turn it into your own mini-fundraiser.

Did you know that you can fundraise and see the world at the same time? Leuka supporters can book 'challenge trips' such as walking The Great Wall of China, climbing Kilimanjaro or trecking to Machu Picchu or through the volcanoes of Iceland via our travel partner, Discover Adventure. So why not combine that trip of a lifetime with life-saving fundraising?

You can find all these trips and more on our 'Get Involved' page, here.

If you try out any of the above, or have any other great New Year's charity ideas, please let us know on
