31th August 2017
This September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month in the UK.
Sadly 26 people every day are diagnosed with leukaemia, a type of blood cancer. That’s more than one person every hour. People of any age, gender and ethnicity can develop leukaemia and, whilst the highest incidence is observed in older adults, leukaemia is the most common of all the cancers diagnosed in children.
At Leuka we want to help cure leukaemia. We fund specialist researchers who focus on translating their research into treatments as quickly as possible, to give patients better, more fulfilled lives. But we can’t do it alone. We need you to help us raise awareness and funds to speed us towards a cure.
How you can get involved
There are plenty of things you can do to raise awareness and much-needed funds this September.
Learn more about blood cancer
Did you know there are 137 different types of blood cancer? They’re classified into three main groups: leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and these three are among the 20 most common cancers in the UK.
Learn more about the four main types of leukaemia, and about other blood cancers.
Are you able to spare an hour or so to help us with bucket collections? We have several collections lined up in the coming weeks around train and tube stations in London, and we need your help to make them a success. If you’re not based in London but know of a great place to hold a bucket collection, we would love to hear from you!
For either volunteering enquiry, contact Simona Abis on firstname.lastname@example.org or reach us at the office on 020 7299 0722.
Are you a baker? A runner? A keen cyclist? Or someone with unique and fun fundraising ideas? Raising money this September is one of the most important things you can help us do during Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
If you’d like to get involved in one of our events, we have plenty to choose from. Or, if you’re already signed up for an event and would like a Leuka running vest/t-shirt and a little help setting up your online fundraising page, we can do that too. Simply email our Community and Events officer Simona (email@example.com) or give the office a ring on 020 7299 072 and we will be very happy to help.
Spread the word on social media
Throughout the month we’ll be sharing facts and stats about blood cancer on social media that you can share, retweet and regram! Make sure you’re following us on your favourite social network and help us raise awareness about leukaemia and blood cancers. Follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Share your story
Do you have a personal connection to leukaemia and would be happy to help us raise awareness of the disease online and in the media? We’re looking for supporters who can help us raise awareness of leukaemia in the wider public sphere – and you can do that by sharing your personal story. Telling these stories to the media and the public will greatly help us in our aim of curing leukaemia by raising awareness of what leukaemia is and Leuka’s aims. If you’d be happy to get involved, email us on firstname.lastname@example.org.
How are you getting involved this Blood Cancer Awareness Month? Let us know – we’d love to hear from you!
