The fabulous UK team at fashion chain 'rag & bone' raised £1100 for Leuka through a sponsored team run. The event was set-up by Sales Supervisor, Jay Revan, in memory of a 'special young boy', George McCarthy. He shares the story below:
'On the 13/07/2018 we had a special event in our store which a 14 year old boy named George McCarthy attended with his father, Mike McCarthy. Upon arrival in store it was apparent that George was not feeling too well at all and that his condition was not so great.
Despite George going through treatment for a very complex form of leukaemia that was terminal, his spirit was extremely high and his outlook on life was incredibly positive. As as a team we wanted to make George feel as comfortable as possible and he thoroughly enjoyed his day in store. He met all of the team and got to know us all really well, including the CEO and founder of the company, Marcus Wainwright.
Once the event had finished and it was time to say goodbye to George there was a real sense of appreciation in the air at the fact we had just met such a special young boy, we felt honored to have hosted George and his father Mike.
A week went by, and on the 20/07/2018 we received an email from George’s father. George had sadly lost his battle against leukemia and had passed away at home peacefully, surrounded by his family.
As a team we all felt touched by this incredibly sad loss of life, and felt like there had to be some way we could honor this young boy's life and do something positive for his family as well as every other family in the world going through a similar situation.
We ran 14km as individuals, in pairs or in groups across the whole of the UK team. We decided to run 14km as this was the age that George sadly passed away and felt it was a nice way to honor George. We greatly appreciated the donations and support we received for Leuka.
R.I.P George McCarthy.'
