Leaving a legacy to Leuka in your will is an incredible gift. By leaving money to our charity, you are helping us support the leukaemia and blood cancer research leaders of the future, and in turn, you are creating a better future for cancer patients.
Leaving Leuka a gift in your will can enable us to:
- Speed up breakthroughs in research, earlier diagnosis, and translate research into viable new treatments
- Bring hope to the 27 people diagnosed with leukaemia every day, their family, and their loved ones
- Ensure the future of long-term research grants.
Your forward-looking donation will help us to fund projects like the IMPACT stem cell transplant clinical trial network- the first of its kind in the UK! Blood cancer and leukaemia patients can increasingly benefit from stem cell transplants as part of their treatment, however, there is much we still need to learn about this important technology. Sadly, of those who receive a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor, fewer than 50% of them will reach the five-year survival milestone. We want to improve this outcome for patients, and with your generous legacy donation we can do just that.
As a small charity, all legacy gifts can help us in our aim of curing leukaemia – no gift is too small to help make a difference in the lives of patients. There are two different types of legacies you can choose to leave: a residual gift or a pecuniary gift.
How to leave a gift in your will
Whether you have yet to make a will or would like to amend your existing will, the process is simple:
- Before you speak to a solicitor, try and calculate the value of your estate. This will help you to work out how much you would like to leave to charity
- Next, find a solicitor. If you do not have a family solicitor, then click here to find one near you.
Making a residuary donation
A residuary gift is a donation of whatever is left over once all other gifts have been made from your estate. You can leave all of the residue to Leuka or divide it into portions.
To make a residuary gift to Leuka in your will your solicitor will need to write:
‘Subject to the payment of my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses, I give the whole/____% of my estate not otherwise disposed of by this my Will to Leuka (A charity registered in England and Wales (1154856) of 52 Portland Place, London W1B 1NH, for the general purposes of Leuka and I declare that the receipt of its Treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge.’
Making a pecuniary donation
A pecuniary gift is a specific sum of money that you choose to leave in your will to Leuka. To make a pecuniary donation to Leuka in your will your solicitor will need to write:
‘I give free of tax to Leuka (A charity registered in England and Wales (1154856) of 52 Portland Place, London W1B 1NH, the sum of £_____ for the general purposes of Leuka and I declare that the receipt of its Treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge.’
